Since 2012, the Federal Government Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) has been supporting the global transition to net zero emissions by pursuing innovation in the areas of technology, renewable energy and knowledge sharing, including investing in over 663 projects with $2.25 billion in grant funding.
The Federal Government also provides tax benefits including a higher Luxury Car Tax threshold for efficient vehicles and FBT EV exemptions for eligible employers.
The Victorian Government has a target to achieve net zero emissions by 2045, including an interim target of 50% of all light vehicle sales to be zero emissions vehicles by 2030. In support of these targets, many Victorian electric vehicle owners will be eligible for the Zero and Low Emissions Vehicle (ZLEV) registration discount of $100.

The West Australian (WA) EV Strategy has a target of achieving a minimum of 25% EV’s for all new light and small passenger, and small and medium SUV government fleet vehicles by 2025/26.
To support this the WA Government is investing $20 million in charging infrastructure at key locations to support uptake and reduce range anxiety.
Zero Emission Vehicles may also be eligible for a $3,500 rebate and EV’s used for on-demand purposes may not attract the On-Demand Passenger Transport Levy.

The ACT has numerous financial incentives to encourage the purchase of EV’s including available discounted or lower registration costs, stamp duty exemptions and interest free loans.

The Queensland Government will have supported 100 DC fast charging stations by the end of 2024 with a charger every 150km on major highways, plus plans for 500 chargers in government buildings available for community use.
Rebates of $3,000 or $6,000 are available to eligible individuals and businesses, as well as lower registration duty costs.

The South Australian government has allocated over $12 million to construct and operate a statewide EV charging network comprising over 530 chargers across 140 stations in both rural and metropolitan areas.
Three year registration exemptions are available for eligible vehicles registered before 30 June 2025.
